That should say, “… And now, please rise and insert earplugs as a celebrity butchers our national anthem.”

Thanks for THIS one, Steve! When the “celeb’s” “sing” it; the ONLY one who can sing IS the “celeb!” My voice is not good[at BEST!] but I enjoy singing the NATIIONAL ANTHEM!!! It makes me feel good!!

The National Anthem was first slaughtered by Jose Feliciano It seems like everybody has a different off-key ending…

at least as a country we have the opportunity to select the people that can’t quite sing it the was we would like to hear it.

Boy does this really strike a chord with me! It has now become an ongoing neverending contest by egomaniacs who render their versions of the anthem by slipping and sliding all over the musical map without actually singing the note they’re supposed to be singing. (GAWD I hate that!!). The worst presentation of the national anthem I ever heard, was by the country singer Johnnie Paycheck. After he got by “O Say Can You See”, he couldn’t think of any more of the words so he hummed the rest of it while strumming his guitar. You CANNOT beat a good choral group singing the National Anthem. It’ll raise the hair right up on the back of your neck.

This panel would be a lot funnier if it weren’t so terribly true.

Quite true, but I feel obligated to invoke the Marvin Gaye exception to this rule.

Yup–this one is just so true. Although, once in a blue moon, a rare celebrity does get the song right …
