I bet with that wonderful basset nose that first you smelled the coming rain and then you looked and saw the clouds. Yeah, you need to let them know what’s coming or everyone is in for a very wet walk home.
Same thing happened to me just this morning: Left my apartment on what looked like a beautiful sunny morning. Sun, blue sky, a few white clouds, the ideal morning. Except that when I got outside I noticed, to the northwest, a very dark gray mass of clouds. We had a 10-minute cloud burst (during which I was happily sheltered in my local post office) and the rest of the day was fine.
