I have a question for the serious hard-core sports historians. What did pro sports do during the 1918-1919 flu pandemic? Did all the leagues carry on as normal? Was there a World Series those years? Just curious.
Sports commentators continually ignore the fact that college athletes are getting a cost free education worth a lot of money as other sources keep reminding us of in terms of student debt. Of course many of these athletes are at college ONLY to play their sport. We really need minor league possibilities for football and basketball so that ‘college’ athletics isn’t the oxymoron it has become.
Several years ago, there was a student newspaper who looked in the parking lot of their university’s basketball team and marveled at how many of the players drove Escalades, and started poking around to see how players could have afforded them.
I can’t remember the outcome, but it seems to have included some suspensions of the newspaper and death threats of unknown origin.
.
I always thought it would be informative to survey transportation methods of players of the revenue sports.

And the boosters and alumni make sure they never NEED that money, from their first recruiting visit.

That’s funny. Those I knew had ‘friends’ lending them cars and spending money.

From what I’ve heard, colleges are reluctant to restart their sports programs.

College football players always have money for beer. Great players may have other sources of dubious income.

Check out the tattoos sometime on college “student-athletes”……who knew they were always for FREE with no strings attached?
