When I was little there was a peanut butter factory nearby and they did tours. When my dad went he asked what was the difference between making smooth vs crunchy peanut butter. They told him they are made exactly the same except at the end were the crunchy gets peanut bits mixed in. So if you like crunch but only have smooth and some peanuts you can crush, you can make crunchy peanut butter.
