I don’t like those goldfish crackers myself. I can’t imagine them being popular with birds.

There are signs here at a local park asking people to NOT feed the waterfowl. One of the problems is people are offering bread, chips, and other food humans like for snacks. This causes malnutrition in the waterfowl, which causes other problems, including angel wing deformity.

It is pretty amazing to watch a pelican with a struggling fish its pouch. It will flip the fish up and swallow it whole. I have seen days in Santa Cruz, when the anchovy were running, that were spectacles of activity. On one side of the pier pelicans were circling and diving.Sometimes it looked like it was raining pelicans. When a pelican was so full of fish it could barely take off, it would move to the other side of the pier and sit on the water burping happily.
