These two characters offer a lesson to cartoonists in differentiating. In color, we can see that Reverend Meeks has brown hair, and is apparently much younger than Homer. In B&W they look very much alike, and it’s hard to tell that he’s not as old as Homer. Alone, he might almost be mistaken for Homer. Cartoonists, of course, see the differences that they intend, but do they convey to the reader?
The Reverend Needs to talk louder during his sermons. And he could designate certain members to shout AMEN and HALLELUJAH once in a while. I was brought up in Pentecostal churches and we didn’t have that problem.

Jerry’s unique style always captured my imagination. That and his wit gave each character such a distinct personality.
