I used to have an old Chevy that had multiple problems: it wouldn’t go backwards, the gas pedal kept falling off the lever that connected it to the accelerator, the lock wouldn’t stay in the glove compartment (I kept it in the ash tray), and the speedometer was broken. (The police office I was dating at the time wanted to know who I’d bribed to keep it on the road.) My dad asked the dealer what he’d give me for a trade-in. Al shrugged and replied, “Well, Fr. Parker, the best I can do is to tow it away for free.”

“Well, Mr. Davis, the best advice I can give you is to unscrew the radiator cap, and drive a new car under it, then go buy a new radiator cap!”
