Can you imagine singing “God bless BIG FAT BROOM-HILDA LAND”?

Gee, what did she weigh back then.

So instead of Americans, we would have been called “Big Fat Broom-HIldians”?

Wonder what the people already living here thought of her.

I think Amerigo Vespucci might disagree about Columbus’s purported discovery.

Yeah, there were people here 30,000 years before Columbus “discovered” America.

It is well accepted that Viking explorer Lief Ericsson sailed to what is now Newfoundland centuries before Columbus. The Vikings were settling Greenland, which is only a short sail from Newfoundland.

Also, it is widely accepted that English fishermen were fishing waters off Newfoundland and Nova Scotia in the early 1400s. They kept it secret lest the French and others move in and ruin the great fishing.

Yeah, from the Arctic to the Antarctic maybe someday the majority WiLl enjoy liberty no matter whom gets what credit.

I can see why that didn’t catch on. Not exactly a subject of national pride.

Seriously tho, did he really discover America? What about Amerigo Vespucci?

What about the millions of people who were already here before any of the people mentioned in these comments?

Big Fat Broom-Hilda Land sounds too much like a musical movie title. America is shorter, too (not shorter than Broomie; shorter than her name for the country)….
