There is a very friendly orange tabby that wanders the area where I live. He often comes out to greet me. I was walking my dachshund Scrappy the other day and the cat came over to say hi. I thought I had a really good hold on Scrappy’s leash as I was petting the cat and trying to get Scrappy to be friendly. But in a split second, Scrappy leaped forward and had the entire cat’s head in his mouth. The cat escaped unharmed, but only visits me when I don’t have Scrappy. He does like to taunt Scrappy from a distance.
I remember visiting the family farm and walking with my father as he was “breaking in” a new ranch puppy. At the neighbor’s yard, the puppy discovered a cat. The cat did not run (ranch cat’s generally don’t) so the puppy went over to explore. When he tried to nose the cat, he had a painful epiphany, cats are sharp! (at least some very fast moving parts).

I love the dog’s sense of weariness here. He’s a Good Boy.

The dog doesn’t seem to be too crazy about it either.

I have a cat that will go up to a strange dog and say, “Come on, let’s be friends.” He does not do the cat-dog fight thing.

He has a very good nature. He occasionally does experience the worst.

I sense we’ll be getting at the truth about cats and dogs any day now.

I’m sure the dog hates it too.
