Getting to the point the only thing left that’s recognizable is the name of the strip . Characters evolving isn’t the problem , it’s making them totally disconnected from the traits that were the reason for the popularity of the strip to begin with .
OK, I must be weird. As much as I loved Mark Tatulli’s version, I think Steenz is doing a great job. Took me a while to get used to the new style of artwork, but I love the way she made the change from grade school to middle school.
I love, love the “new” Heart. Every time I read it, it reminds me of when my kids were that exact age. I have both the girls and the boy. So he went through Dean’s days, and the girls went through Heart’s and her friends stages. Everything so far is right on: the earrings, the caffeteria, the sleep over, the star wars (or something like it), the school play…
Steens knows her middle school angst, that’s for sure…
So I told my daughter about this new take on Heart, and she is letting her young daughters read it too. Right now graphic books are the “in” thing in primary grades, and this new style of a continuing story got my granddaughters’ attention…

The last panel is exactly how Heart is going to show herself if she wins an Emmy.

I think the last panel refers to continuing to view this strip. R.I.P Heart of the City!

I will NOT knowingly start a tearjerker movie.

I’m curious about the murder investigation on the wall behind them.

Nah! That was a great idea.

At least you’re not wearing make-up.

You want to cry at Pixar, don’t watch Coco. Watch “Inside Out” or, if you’re pressed for time, the first eight minutes of “Up.”

Poor Heart. Who watches a tearjerker without tissues?
