Other times, not so much if you’ve not seem them in ages since the pandemic closed some of your special social gatherings (church, synagogue, mosque, temple, school, what have you). I’m sure if you’re going to have a family reunion, there’ll be some relatives who you’ve also not seen in ages.
I don’t know about anyone else, but I have no problem recognizing friends with masks on. There are other characteristics that are unique to them other than the mouth and nose.

Relatives visit with masks and my dog barks until she sniffs. Then all is o.k.

Not necessarily unless they have a unique mask you’ve seen or a distinct feature not covered by the mask.
