During my one trip to Japan in late 2010, my friends would go for the safest and most familiar food choices.

To be honest, wasn’t that much more adventurous, though at the local Häagen-dazs I’d at least seek out flavors which weren’t available stateside. ✨❤️✨

Pizza can indeed be had in Japan …

… though it seems to be going directly to Sam’s nose. ✨❤️✨

I don’t blame Sam at all. The only way I’ll eat fish is battered and deep fried.

So the pizza is turning Sam back to his normal art style, the only question is will the sake make his weeb design return?

Would it count if he got a Japanese topping on it, like slices of those fish cakes they put in ramen? I’ve never eaten one, but you can’t help but love the swirly look! XD

Put some corn and mayo on the pizza and you’ll be all set. The mayo is really good.

My brother and his wife (from Orlando) came to visit us here in Japan. My (Japanese) wife and I gave them all the best Japanese cuisine. I took them up to Narita for their flight home. After saying goodby, I realized I’d forgotten something and went looking for them. I found them at one of the airport pizza parlors. Comfort food no doubt.

Hmmm….comfort food. I remember missing bacon when living in Pakistan. Pork is not considered a clean meat in Islam……so no bacon…..for three years. However the curry did provide a change of pace.

Try okonomiyaki, it’s delicious Kansai food and it’s sometimes called Japanese pizza so you can do both at the same time, the pizza and the traditional Japanese food.

I always find it funny when sales people, vendors, etc. ask me to lunch or dinner with them. They always suggest a Japanese bbq, ramen house or sushi. I think they think it is what I want. I’m 1/2 Japanese, and 1/2 Italian – but I have the eyes, and jet black hair – well it used to be (got a lot of snow lately).

What’s even funnier is when we get to talking, and I mention that my Japanese mother won a National Betty Crocker cooking contest in the 1960’s with lasagne! She learned Italian cooking from my dad’s mom and sister, who insisted that if she was going to be with my father, she had to learn to cook Italian. My mom made some of the best Italian food, from simple spagehtti with meatballs to gourmet dinners, along with traditional Japanese Food -

The only weird anglo versions were she used to make my Dad Fried Rice using ketchup and butter instead of Soy Sauce, and cut up Hot Dogs instead of chicken strips or shrimp. A lot of the Army guys who used to come over loved that concoction. My mom used to make us (kids and for herself) normal fried rice, except we got egg instead of chicken.

She also used to take Ramen Noodles and pan fry them, using the sauce packet and butter to season the noodles and add onions, and Guydon beef to it. When I got to college and every kid ate Ramen a lot, I taught them how to fry them up, it was very popular.

Sam, you can have all the pizza you want back in Knightville. While you’re in Japan, you should try to eat the local cuisine.

A pizza made in Japan is still Japanese food. Besides, he needs all the comfort food he can get after the subway ride.
