Unfulfilled notions are the only ones with staying power in the very young. Once they see or experience them, it’s game over, until the next one comes along. :D

I guess I know what they mean by fish slapping with respect to bears, but what I always think of is fish slapping with respect to Pythons:

I feel sorry for the fish-slapping bears. They lasted for about a week, maybe?

Pangolins are another kettle of fish altogether (so to speak). Endangered by human predation, the little buggers are cute—sorta anteaters (always cute!) with scales. They merit at least a week’s worth of Alician fixation!

Where did Alice learn of pangolins, I wonder?

Ah childhood. When they have an imagination as large as the sky – and the attention span of a carrot…

WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT! just when you think you know a person they blow your mind.

At least pangolins are less likely to eat you for dinner. And they are kind of cute.
