    The term “flying saucer” had been used since the 1890s to refer to the clay pigeon disks used in target practice.

    In the late 1940s, the term began to appear in print to describe unexplained aerial phenomena later called UFOs.

    The so called “Roswell Incident” happened in June of 1947.

    The “Nancy” strip posted above appeared in April of 1950, less than three years after the Roswell stories began to appear.
