Me thinks the episode with the Tribbles may have put the kaibosh on the chance of any pets aboard the Enterprise – but that’s just me…

As I understand it, it’s been established that the USS Enterprise has some crew members of the dolphinish persuasion.

As far as dogs go, Captain Archer of the 22nd Century Enterprise had a doggie companion.

I’m talking about a full integrated crew member, too and I also need an extra ration!!

And then came Porthos on Enterprise, which I’m watching with my daughter this month. Every time the pup comes on screen we cheer, the star has arrived.

Dogs aren’t pets, Red! Where on Earth did you ever get that idea?!

I worry about Red’s future with so much TV time.

Yeah. In honor of Laika the Russian dog sent to death in Sputnik 2. That always bothered me. Still does.

So if the dog is in the landing party, is there a crew member designated to pick up after the dog? Enquiring minds want to know.
