When my late mom and I saw it, Mom said, “They stole my ending!” I’m hoping there’ll be a sequel that reveals they survived.
Never saw the movie, so I’m afraid I don’t get the joke.

If he’s going to invoke the movie scene for the gag, he should have gotten the car right… it was a Thunderbird convertible with the top DOWN.
At least they survive the movie.
