Possibly when Elvis first began singing “My Way” in his concerts, he needed to read the lyrics onstage. Somehow it became a shtick and he started doing it every time. I found this out after I saw him do it live, and then saw the same thing in a recorded show later on. I never thought it was funny or appropriate, but apparently he got a kick out of it.
