Is Adam so desperate for work that he has to accept EVERY client that calls him? Couldn’t he just turn them down? (But, of course, if he did, we wouldn’t have a cartoon story arc …)
Adam’s going to have a devil of a time getting through this project. Maybe he should just stall and leave this client in limbo. Heaven knows he has enough problems.
If he’s not coming just in the nick of time to avoid complete disaster you can just ignore him. If he is coming just in the nick of time to avoid complete disaster you should probably have more appreciation for him.
It is amazing what one will done to get or keep a client.
I had one client who had a small jewelry shop, the owner and his wife who worked with him were in their 80s. In summer she would eat sardines for lunch – with the door of the store closed to keep out the heat & without the ac as she was cold (which now that I am 68 I understand the cold) and I thought I would pass out from the smell. The bathroom was shared with the store next door. They were afraid someone would rob or break into the store next door & come through the other store’s door to the bathroom to theirs to rob them – so not only was the door to the bathroom locked, they stacked cartons in front of it to slow anyone down. If I had to go all this had to be moved. I had to make sure that both doors were locked from inside and to get to the toilet bowl I had to jump over the huge hole in the floor to the basement.
I still have another client (unless she does not reopen after all this) who sells antique jewelry on an exchange in Manhattan and is her 80s now. (I took over the clients from my former boss whose dad worked for the assay office.) She does not use a computer. She has a problem using her credit card machine. She sells something maybe once a month or less other than maybe in December. She has trouble understanding dealing with the sales tax, credit card billing and pays a hefty minimum amount most months as she does not have enough credit card sales, and so many other modern business things. The billings from her alarm company come to an email address I set up for her as they will only bill by same and she cannot deal with it. When I was going there monthly to do her books I would bring the alarm bill and pay it for her when I was there. Currently I have to mail them to her so she can pay it – and enclose instructions to do so.
When I come/came home from these clients I am so exhausted from dealing with them, but we need the income. I also have a tax client who disappeared.

Good thing that table is made of soft balsa wood so that his face would penetrate right through it

Adam accomplished nothing all last week because he was too busy drinking coffee
Not that I can judge, I was on vacation and did little except drink coffee and read
We both need to get back to work now
If this is an important high paying client, he may want a different coffee than last week

Karma hit pretty quick here. Coffee high to client low in a day. Sheesh! Comic whip lash here.

He may want Irish Coffee. Heavy on the “Irish” and light on the “coffee”.
