Aristotle taught that objects like stones, however inanimate, had agency, and sought (somehow) to be as close as possible to the center of the earth. Given the lasting influence of Aristotle’s thought, someone like Newton had to think outside the box. He didn’t get it quite right, thinking of gravity as a kind of force. I don’t know if he was troubled by the whole idea of forces acting at a distance.

Next panel: Horace yells at the tree, “Hey, what’s the big idea? I’m asking you because I don’t remember mine.”

I can identify. With my short-term memory problems, all it takes is a little distraction and I’ve totally forgotten my great idea.

Your comics make me laugh out loud, and few others do. Brilliant! Have you ever thought about doing a collection of just your elevator strips?

What – no oranges (“Apfelsine” – the former German word for it translates to “Chinese apple”) or pineapples? – Booooring.
