Father Duke ? The Catholic Church has been beat up enough . It does not need the DUKE to represent it .

Nice start. Whiskey and donuts for breakfast. Oddly, enough, I like it. …“may I have some more Sir?”

You can’t have a whole donut, but maybe the donut’s hole?

Notice that we can’t see the kid’s eyes, so we can’t tell if he’s a “wide-eyed innocent” the way children in “Doonesbury” usually are until they reach a certain age of cynicism.

This story arc is a mild example of how, unlike that his copyright-violating "competitor"*, Trudeau’s work is as often about characters as it is about politics. No matter how one feels about Newt Gingrich’s abduct-the-children orphanage scenario, Duke, via his scraped-bare-bones approach to guarantee that he gets to keep the maximum amount of money for himself, is cheating EVEN NEWT. Right, left, center, Duke is on no one’s side but his own.

*Writer Roy Thomas and artist Scott Shaw created the character of Mallard Fillmore for DC Comics’ “Captain Carrot and His Amazing Zoo Crew” in 1982. Here’s the best image I could find of him via a brief search:
