let’s just hope Sally doesn’t think of bowling with Linus is a date with her sweet babboo (which he’ll angrily claim it’s not a date nor is he her sweet babboo)
This was one rare Peanuts storyline that I don’t remember at all. It’s kind of a treat, really, as if it was a completely new bit of Peanuts after all this time.
This was a prescient story arc! How did Schultz realise that putting kids in leagues would result in the diminishing of the child’s independence and promoting constant child supervision.
It’s pretty fun, but I’m not any good at it and rarely do it. Used to go with friends now and then at an alley where they did not care if I wore the shoes. Being quite abnormal, I did not. Barefoot, I can throw strikes. A few years ago, I was bowling with a family from the church. It was pretty busy, and figuring I might go unnoticed, I got out of the shoes and socks. I threw 3 consecutive strikes. With THAT on the board, I got a little more attention than I really wanted and someone from the management came to tell me I could not bowl barefoot for safety reasons.
Don’t forget the bowling shirts with your team name on the front and your name printed on the back. If you are really fancy you get them embroidered not printed.
the facial expressions that Schulz could conjour from a couple of lines and dots were amazing. Sally and Linus look so smug (IMO) as they announce to poor Chuck the change in sports seasons. And of course, Charlie’s burn is trumped by Snoopy’s – priceless.
None of you seem to be getting the other point here: Linus and Sally LOST the Snowman competition, so they quit. They are acting like….like…..children!
Indeed, this ending is much more abrupt than maybe one would expect…
I first saw this arc in a compilation book when I was 7 years old, and was very curious about the whole bowling thing…turns out there was a local bowling league that had a division for those as young as 7. It was called the “Peanuts” division.
Synchronicity caused me to ask my parents if I could join. My team took first place that season. Thanks, Mr. Schultz!

Screw ‘em Charlie. Do your own thing! It’s what ever makes you happy, not them!

Did Snoopy help build the snowman? It must be, for his imprecation suggests it.

I wonder what size of bowling balls they use,,,5Lbs perhaps? After all these are little kids, even if some of them have a big mouth.

I hate 7-10 splits. I may have gotten one by complete accident but I can’t get one by skill.

I do not bowl much, but I have never left only the 5 pin.

Mr. Van Pelt and Miss Brown were all in on the Silver Flakes on Wednesday. Forgotten by Saturday. The attention span of children…

Linus is surprisingly out of character in this series of strips; he’s acting like Violet and Patty.

I just noticed, Linus is without his security blanket and he sure is not acting like the Linus of usual, what gives????

Bowling is a less contact sport, and some bowling alleys have temporary closed and bowling leagues have temporary ceased due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

I bet that Charlie’s friends are mad on the inside and they are covering up their true feelings.

I enjoyed bowling in my early teens and into my 20’s. Now in my mid-40’s, it hurts too much to swing that ball.

Bad timing, Charlie. (Though the bowling league won’t be much different I reckon.)
