Hmmmm, dividing fractions. OK, 1/4 of 1/4 = 1/16. Right?

Methinks that Ben would lose on that old TV show “Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader?”

1/4 of 8 is 2. So of implies multiplication. If I have 1/4 of a pie and have to give you 1/4, you get 1/16th. 1/4 of 1/4 ==> 1/16

His aversion to fractions is understandable. He daily operates and functions according to fractions; 1/8, 1/5, 1/4 now and then. Some of his reasons are understandable, but fun is fun. Fun is a good reason. Yes someone in particular does think he has too much, but he does manage to have some fun. Another good reason is he realizes the importance of helping his grandson realize the necessity of fun. Fractions are filled with wonder.
