And if your reaction to bad events is to hide or shrug and acquiesce, then they’ll NEVER get better.

PS: I certainly CAN control, to some extent, a lot of what goes on around me. Though obviously not everything. I always keep my gas tank half full, for instance, so if I ever need to get the H out of D, I can get started quickly. And I keep my roof in good condition, so I won’t have to deal with a leaky roof unless there’s a SERIOUS disaster.

Neurolinguistically, the ass may be mulish, but he’s accurate. When we go below the surface personality’s desires and beliefs, it’s what we really feel in our hearts (to be a little colloquial) that dictates, to a large extent, what we cause in our environment. It’s always possible to choose Frankl’s logotherapy! Or——just find a nice bottle of something you like and live with it.

I’m pretty sure life can become objectively better as well, like peace is better than war, and a world without COVID is better than wearing masks, small businesses going under in droves, and manipulation of a health crisis for political gain.

The Wise Ass on the Hill is close to correct. But he has left State Compulsion out of the mix.

    But if you try sometimes

You just might find you get what you need.
