I honestly feel bad for teachers. I told my Mom when I was younger that I wanted to be a teacher and she said no, now as an adult I see why. Underpaid, overworked, and they still have to buy their own supplies because the government won’t give the schools the money they need
It makes me think about Elizabeth Patterson from For Better it For Worse, she said she wants to be a teacher as well because of her previous teacher, Miss Edwards. While I do appreciate the sentiment behind her decision, I also remember reading how long it was before she got a decent wage. Yes, she had her first job in a First Nation community and I definitely liked reading that story, but it’s when she got back that she had a hard time landing a job. Also, by the time the comic ended, she got married and quit teaching because she wanted to be a stay-at-home mother.
What I’m trying to say is that I applaud the work that teachers do and if you say that’s your career, you should commit. Teachers are so unappreciated, they need more respect than what their given, not only from the government, but also within their communities. There just needs to be a change for the education career.
All I noticed was a dedicated and patient teacher who loves children and is doing a wonderful job with them. She’s going all the way for them and they all love her for it. Her rewards may come later tho’ she doesn’t do it for that.
Didn’t think Snug Harbor would get that much traffic, but okay. Maybe she commutes from out of town?
I love how she was up so late grading papers, her clock gives up saying the exact time and just goes “Look, it’s seriously late, all right? Go to bed already!” :P
People who become teachers have higher motives than monetary. They are selfless and sacrificing and understand that the seeds they sow are good ones that reap a harvest for years and even generations going forward.
Which in practice means for-profit private schools that cut corners even sharper than the public schools, or parochial schools that may or may not cover godless subjects like evolution and sex ed.
Public schools are a function of democracy, which as Winston Churchill said, is the worst system except for all the others.
A friend of mine who tends to be a bit right wing posted a meme showing a teacher saying, in effect, “It’s not right that i have to spend my own money to do my job” being answered by a picture of a mechanic in a shop saying “cool story, bro”. I pointed out that a) teachers don’t get $50-$90 hourly for labor, and b) mechanics don’t give their tools away to every customer that walks in the door. In fact customers pay through the nose for supplies (oil, filters, etc.) He was forced to concede that I had a point.
I was confused by the sequence of scenes, but I suppose it shows the end of one school day and the beginning of the next. It seems that the whole class still attends the brick and mortar school in person? In my area the schools have been trying many strategies to cut back on crowding, such as having half the class onsite on alternate days, while the rest tune in from home, and then switching.

Wallace is one of the few good guys. Pay Will Henry lots of money to keep it that way.

How did teachers let themselves get suckered into buying their own supplies? What are they paying union dues for if not to stop this sort of thing?

Sorry Mr. Henry. I love your comic. I hate it when it turns political here. I beg your pardon.
