Welcome to “pethood 101”. I am up every morning at 5:30 AM and never go to bed before 11:30PM because the dogs have to go out to pee. Been doing it every day for 45 years.
The only time I’ve had to do that with my dog was last summer. He wasn’t feeling well in the middle of the night so I hopped out of bed and quickly took him outside. I live in an apartment complex, it was about 4AM. I was in my jammies of course. Right in the middle of his doing his business the sprinklers come on and believe me when I say that water was COLD. We were both soaked by the time I got him back upstairs. Who knew the sprinklers came on at 4AM????

A tall fenced in back yard would remedy that.
