Don’t know how well that would work, but once upon a time, I dropped into aa auto parts place just at closing and didn’t notice the police officer talking to the owner- but I saw a big German Shepard, so I slapped my leg twice to call him over…he perked up and came over to me for a head scratch- the cop spun around and started to say: “Don’t do that….oh, shoot.” I bet that police dog failed his training.
A few years ago, my dog was playing in a local park with another big dog when a burglar, fleeing the scene of the crime, ran onto the field. Both dogs gave chase. The burglar jumped over a fence, trapping himself. “Call ‘em off”, he begged, but to no avail. Moments later the police arrived and took him into custody.
I dated a policeman when I was between husbands, and he said mot police dogs are trained to commands in a language other than English. Apparently Baltimore dogs were trained in Hungarian, so instead of Sit, they responded to Ulni. This prevents just the sort of thing in the cartoon.
