Yup. As soon as Nate leaves Social Studies, it automatically becomes extremely fun.

Nate was still in shock to learn that Mrs. Godfrey was his mother. He knew he had to call Francis to tell him the news.

Nate: “You won’t believe what I just found out. I have a new mother.”

Francis: “What are you talking about?”

Nate: “It’s … “ [shudders] “Mrs. Godfrey.”

[Silence]

Nate: “Did you hear me? Mrs. Godfrey is my mother. The horror!”

Francis: “I actually have some news myself, about MY new father.”

Nate: “Don’t even … “

Francis: “Yep. It’s coach John.”

Nate: “Gag me! How do we ever deal with this?”

Francis: “Extra Cheez Doodles—stat!”

I’m confused. First, the way I understand it, Nate still goes to school and has regular classes; he just skips social studies. So he has two or threeadditional free hours a week where he could, for example, surf the Internet, play games or – ok, not Nate-like – work a bit for other classeswhere he, as is well known, isn’t exactly a genius either. Second, why is social studies class suddenly such fun when it had been boring for years?I hear Americans even have to learn the biographies of their Presidents.I never believed that but it has been a topic in Big Nate quite a few times.

What does Nate even learn about in social studies? He learned about the Revolutionary War, the Civil War, the two World Wars, and now the Cold War, and they all seem to be at different times of the school year. I remember when Nate had to write a research paper on the French and Indian War, which took place at the end of the year, even though it was an early event in American history.

This is unfair. When Nate is in social studies there is boring things. But when Nate isn’t in her class, they get to do fun stuff

And my nerd thing, is that the ending of big Nate will end with big Nate entering the social studies, and sitting down, then a glossy panel with Nate smiling at mrs Godfrey. Or i’m wrong and Nate will just shrug it off.

Well, this turn of events was pretty predictable.
