Makes me wonder already: how long does it take for pasta to soften up when the water isn’t boiling? (Additionally, did I comment on this comic last time it was posted? It feels like an online rerun. I wonder what I wrote then.)

How about that other adage. An unwatched pot causes kitchen fires.

I finally convinced my wife that once the water gets boiling, there is no sense in keeping the flame on high. The water will maintain 212 degrees F (or 100 degrees C) more or less depending on air pressure and what else is dissolved in the water until it all boils away.

The only thing a high flame does is boil the water away faster. You only need to apply enough heat to replace that lost by radiation to the outside air and the extra heat needed by the molecules to go from water to steam.

But Jason, he isn’t lying. You actually didn’t turn on the pot. You don’t want to eat uncooked macaroni for lunch, do you?

Jason should be able to feel the heat, even if it’s an electric.

We’ve seen that Jason’s intelligence, high IQ and all, is somewhat narrowly focused. I’m not surprised that he doesn’t seem to know what an adage is, but I am surprised that he would accept it without independently testing it for himself.
