    My cat goes for walks with me in the cul-de-sac where I live. I do most of the walking; she does most of the supervising. She’s a tabby, so the “sergeant’s stripes” remind me to concentrate on the task at hand.

    used to see a young couple taking turns walking their doberman. on a very short leash, with the poor dog bouncing up in the air as much as it was going forward. haven’t seen them recently – the poor pooch probably died of stress…

    saw a typical local fatso gal the other day ‘walking’ her giant borzoi – she was hanging back, yanking as hard as she could on the leash to keep the wretched dog from dragging her down the pavement in an effort to get the kind of run it needed…

    there’s another older woman who does much the same with her poor big black lab – every time the dog shows some interest in something, she yanks on the already short leash…

    there should be a licensing system that prevents most people from owning pets that they don’t know how to care for. end of rant…
