Given the pattern on dad’s smoking jacket matches the brick wall that cartoon Cynthia is going to knock down, I’d venture this is an oblique critique of the magical thinking espoused by the 1% crowd to justify their rigging of the system over the past 40 years: Yeah, we’ve got wealth (2); but if our taxes were slashed to almost nothing so that we could keep even more of our wealth (+2); this results in EXTRA economic growth (=5, not 4 but 5, isn’t that great!); and that “extra” 1 is what will “trickle down” to everybody else, creating a magic land of prosperous unicorns and rainbows! Sadly, we’re at a point in this country where anyone who dares to raise their hand and say “But real world math doesn’t work that way,” is instantly labeled a Socialist.
Love sweet love is an admirable wish, but the “What the world needs now” is ultimately more critical thinking and a healthy skepticism of magic-bullet promises by charismatic but unqualified leaders and the banking elites who fund their ambitions.
Love your comment, but you failed to make it so the 1% can understand what you mean. The coffee that Barney is holding is setting on the wall. Barney is the wall. The wall must come down. Barney does not understand that.
