At first I thought she meant 25,000 miles, but then I realized she meant 25 kilometers.

Yeah, like everything Elly, the car is plain and simple. A utility vehicle. And a good deterrent for Mike? Wouldn’t he want to be caught dead in such an unimpressive and utilitarian car? He will wait for his dad to buy one with bells and whistles. And I bet John will say “Touch it and you’re dead.”

No, she said 25K (spoken 25 Kay) – as in 25,000 Km – or about 15,500 miles. You either say kilometers or clicks.

It’s Canada so the odometer reads in kilometers but 25Km or 16K mi is still probably more than a year’s worth of driving. So where does her relishing the “new car smell” yesterday come from? A bit of a plot hole perhaps?

25 km would make more sense. But 25,000 (km? miles?) is what she wrote.

I can identify with the wipe your feet part. For the few times that I’ve bought a new car, I get cheapo floor mats to go over the factory floor mats.

Ummmm…..they’re already in. Shouldn’t you have said that when they were still outside the car?

Reagan was the one who canceled the conversion to metric. During the Carter years the conversion was going full speed ahead, even in baseball parks the measurements on the outfield fences were metric. However they still use miles on English road signs.

Kids. When are they going to realize they were put on this Earth to serve their parents?

This is a Canadian cartoon. We changed from miles to kilometers a long time ago. Not like you Americans who are still stuck in the dark ages…measurement wise. lol

Is anybody else confused by this? At the beginning of this arch, I thought they were looking at used cars but Ellie comes home in a new car.

As has been pointed out here many times before, you can’t spell Elly without Y-E-L-L.

I only had one rule: No red pop or slushes or anything similar. It doesn’t come out of the carpets in the car or house. At least I didn’t go overboard and say no girlfriends that drink red beverages are allowed.

She will change her attitude after a short while. It’s called getting the car broken in (literally)….

My parents only bought Chevrolet cars and trucks for the longest time. This was due to Daddy being a moonshine up to the end of the 60s, and knowing a Chevy engine wouldn’t crap out on him. Ford was okay. Dodge sucked, he said.

In 789, Charlemage introduced the royal foot as a unit of measure. (He died Jan. 28 814, that’s why I ran across this ).

It has 25,000 on the odometer? I thought in the previous strip she wanted to smell that new car smell.

That car is TINY in panel 2. If mom is around 165cm (or around 5’6") tall, then the car is only about 1m high. Who’d she buy it from; Peter Potterpoop on Cul-de-sac?

I wonder how long would the mother expect the children to wipe feet before they enter the new car.
