So you don’t think you have the pipes? You can “blame it on the rain” you know, ‘cause "girl you know it’s true!" ;D

All those lip-sync singers should be sent to sing sing.

Some of today’s “singers” are autotuned to sound better than they really are. Not much better than lip-syncing IMO.

In 1991 the kid and I “finger synced” a recorder duet in Amahl and the Night Visitors to a couple real players in the orchestra pit. I referred to us as “Amahli Vanahli.”

Never thought I’d find myself sticking up for Milli Vanilli, BUT. . .

. . . the Dutch producer who marketed them had done a similar act called Boney M., which had a number of disco hits. There was a 3-girl backup who really sang, and Bobby Farrel, who was the dancer out front. He lip-synched to the pre-recorded male vocals in the stage shows. Nobody pretended he was really singing, except him, pretending to sing - does that make sense?

Anyway. It was a good act, and like I say, it was a show, and Farrel was the dancer who sometimes made like he was singing, and nobody thought anything of it.

So fast forward a decade, and here’s the same producer with a couple guys who can dance, so he puts together some studio tracks and puts them out front dancing while the soundtrack plays — I don’t think anybody was trying to pull a fast one, I think the producer just didn’t clarify what the act was. So there ya go.

OK, Boney M. A lot of their songs had somewhat bizarre historical references, check out this live (cough cough) performance of their hit “Rasputin”. The comments are as much fun as the show! https://youtu.be/SYnVYJDxu2Q
