I don’t know. I’ve seen cats climbing on stacks of book and other things, and suddenly everything starts sliding to the floor in a tumbling fashion. The cat then picks them selves up and give you the look that says, “I meant to do that way!”.
So I guess cats can slide and fall down just about anywhere.
Also, remember that they have low mass for their bone strength and (especially) young(skinny) ones can fall/jump from great heights without injury. There is video of a cat on the crossbeam of a 33KV power pole 60ft in the air, who jumped all the way to the ground when the rescuing bucket truck came up to get it..and ran off apparently unharmed.
Once upon a time, we had a tortoiseshell cat who was supposed to be outside (my wife is allergic). Rocky insisted on hovering right next to the front door, and zip-oozing herself inside when anyone opened that door. Up the stairs in the living room, we had two 7’ 6" book cases, with fully accessible tops that did not reach the cathedral ceiling. She was fully capable to, and occasionally did, jump straight up and land on that top.
However, her favorite stunt was to jump up to the top shelf, which was lined with books. Reaching out a paw, claws extended, she would catch herself on one of the book spines and then haul herself into the thin space between the books and the shelf top. There she would reside, firmly ensconced.
Anyone who was foolish enough to try and reach in, grab her by the scruff of her neck, and pull her out was met by a paw armed with needle-sharp claws. If you managed to get by the claws, she would brace her paws and claws against the spines of at least four books, thereby pushing them out and tumbling them down the front of the book case as she was evicted. I have seen her clear 11 books at a time that way. As soon as a book left her paw in its way down, that paw became a slashing sabre to inflict due punishment on the evictor.
If dropped, she would spring back up, this time to the second shelf down, and repeat the ploy. Given that the evictor continued to want to ‘play’ she, quite willingly, would clear all six shelves one after the other, and then go for the second bookshelf.
And the clincher was that the whole time she would gaze at you with these huge, innocent eyes that begged the question “Why do you want to evict me? Don’t you love me anymore?”

Just keep a stiff upper lip and head held high and your reputation will be intact.

A cat is hardly likely to fall over the edge. Humans taking selfies are a different matter.

Down at the end, round by the corner
Close to the edge, just by a river
Seasons will pass you by
I get up
I get down
Now that it’s all over and done
Now that you’re fine
Now that you’re whole
