We used to go to Colonial Willamsburg the first weekend in December for their Grand Illumination event (start of Christmas activities there and busiest day of the year- pending the weather). There are many others who go annually also and some of them stood out by how they were dressed. (We went in modern clothing not our reenactment clothing as we don’t winter clothing of same.) Among them was a group of women who would come in their Christmas sweaters. One year it was much too warm to wear sweaters, but there they were – sweating like crazy, fanning themselves, but they had to wear their Christmas sweaters.
When did the sweaters start to be called “ugly sweaters” – they never used to be called that?

A co-worker once borrowed a tie from me. I later learned he wore it to an Ugly Tie Party. I never got it back.

As far as Ben is concerned “ugly” does not exist re: sweaters!

They’re not ugly (in general, tho I’ve seen some definite exceptions), they’re Creative!

I wouldn’t call that ugly either, maybe a little busy.
