Looks like the Chili days have begun.

On a warm summer day in Germany the restaurant menu offered Kaltkirschsuppe. I translated “cold cherry soup”. Cold cherry soup? Nah, that can’t be right. But cold cherry soup was what it was. My first ever cold soup.

What was that Ario gave you? Janis, you better take over.

Janis, don’t be so chili, nothing to stew over.

Sorry Arlo. Gazpacho with a warm loaf of crusty French or Italian bread is good anytime of year.

I’m with Arlo. Made my first pot of meat sauce the day before yesterday. I onlly know one way to make it, large. Seemed like old times until it’s just the two of us for dinner. Normally this would attract at least the local family or easily a dozen dinners. Maybe next year. Froze the rest in eight little two sized containers.

I love chili season. Chili-getti! YUM!

A specialty of the house.

I wonder who made the cold cucumber soup, hunh? Well it was summer… and it was hot… outside…

Well I just had to know what it was so I Googled it: Authentic Gazpacho Gimme Some Oven4.9(83)15 minCucumber, green bell pepper, white bread, red onion, olive oil

Now this one sounds good to me. Some of the others not so much.

Our family has never eaten Borscht cold on purpose, always hot, joke kind of confused me. Did a google and yup, learned something new.

Pot roast last night. My wife won’t let me make it until the evenings are below 50F.

I love borscht. Good stuff, but it’s hard to find fresh beets. Beets help lower your blood pressure, but you need to eat a boatload for it to really do you any good.

How do you really feel about these foods, Arlo?

My wife decided that she really didn’t like gazpacho, so excess tomatoes are made into sauce now.

Dang, is cucumber soup really a “thing”? Ugh!

I used to eat a lot of cold soup; but my kids got older and I learned once again what a hot meal was like.

Chili beats a cold soup any day. However, something different is OK once in a while…..

Whole cucumber soup is just a jar of pickles!

Somebody tell Arlo it’s easier to leave the heavy pot on the stove and carry the bowls back and forth to it.

I have never, ever eaten cold borscht…not sure I want to try that…

I am not cruel enough to serve cold soup.

Borscht is pretty darn good. And I’ll take a bowl of duck’s blood soup to go!

I’ve had cold cucumber soup – the European version was terrible, the Japanese version? I actually really liked it.

So if he doesn’t like cold soup, why mention Borscht?

One of my coworkers is from Belarus. She frequently has her borscht for lunch.

Back to the cold cherry soup…my Aunt Irma used to make it, but her version included dumplings. My brother and I loved the cherries and the juice part, but hated the dumplings—cold lumps of dough. Ugh.

Hey Arlo, How about some potato and leek soup. But no vichyssoise allowed at the table.

What do you mean “no borscht”? Borscht is ideal for this time of year!
