My big-boy loves to catch leaves. The way they float in the wind is fun for him. I used to toss rake-fulls of them and he would fly through the air to catch them. He is a bit older now, less flying but still has fun catching the leaf that evaded him on a breeze.
Happens all the time to us. Out walking my Lab and little dog and a leaf will “skitter” across the road. The Lab will investigate then walk away, the little dog will bite the leaf and proudly carry it around for awhile!

I think Rover’s expression is best described as ‘hangdog’ :)

Rover is just protecting Red from those dried-up old leaves!

You’d think a dog would recognise a squirrel by its scent! Maybe Rover has a cold in his nose?

Oh Rover I think you saw the color and thought of a squirrel and ran for it…finding out it was only a leaf.
