Very nice. I’m a fan and have seen reprints of that original strip, but I didn’t know it was Segar’s birthday.
Of course, when they first met Popeye, Castor Oyl and Harold Hamgravy didn’t realize they’d be relinquishing their leading roles in the strip.
In the cartoons that swab appeared on a Betty Boop first before getting his own.
