And Simba is Scar’s favorite and only nephew. (As far as I know, my older brother and I aren’t our paternal grandparents’ favorite grandsons because because they died before we were born… well, brother was born a few months after Granddad died.)

But is Earl Nelson’s favorite grandfather? Have Dan’s parents ever appeared in the strip? Come to think of it, when’s the last time we saw Dan?

Usually Grandparents when asked that question would reply “I love all of my grandchildren the same way”!

My mother never actually said in so many words that I was her favorite, but she did say that if my younger brother had been born first he would have been an only child.

Well, I have a favorite 6-year-old, a favorite 9-year-old, a favorite 11-year-old, a favorite 14-year-old and a favorite 16-year-old. Only the 6-year-old is actually related.

This brought a tear to my eye and a smile to my face. It’s what I always told my oldest grandson ( now 26 ) when he was growing up and he’d always say, “But I’m your only grandson”, too.

When I married my current wife and became part of a family with four wonderful younger grandchildren, I called my numero uno and told him that he was still my favorite grandson. He laughed and said that was because he was the first to make me a great-grandfather!

Earl should have been a diplomat. He can bs his way out of any situation.

That is why I ask, Who is Dan?

Along those lines. We have three children, all adults now. I told them “You are my favorite older daughter”, “my favorite son”, and “my favorite younger daughter.”

When challenged I replied Love is the only thing that allows you to give all you have to one person and still have love left over for another.

Tricky when you have identical twins, one an Army Ranger and the other Army Green Beret.

This sets a dangerous precedence. For example, my first and only wife was my favorite.

I know about favorites. My dad’s mom had her favorite son and grandson.

My father-in-law does this all the time. My son is his favorite (and only) grandson. I’ve always been his favorite son-in-law. Then when his other daughter got married, he started calling me his favorite local son-in-law, as they live far away.

This is a repeat from 2007, so it’s possible Sylvia, were she to appear, is again slender and pretty and Dan isn’t even in the picture yet. Brian usually repeats old strips when he goes on vacations. I hope he gets back soon, but he’s still away as of this comment.
