When they get older there is no way Lucy would end up with Schroeder, she would probably end up married to Chuck living paycheck to paycheck in a duplex next to Marcie and P. Patty while Snoopy would run off to live with the little red headed girl. Schroeder may end up as the “swinging” bachelor playing in nightclubs and ballrooms entertaining older ladies.
This was in ‘Be My Valentine, Charlie Brown’. Every year I watch my DVD of that, by the time Schroeder’s piano is destroyed, I’m sure he wonders what he has to gain with Lucy.
I kinda enjoy memories of lost loves. One married a guy 30 years her senior. Another’s been married 4 times. Another lives in a trailer in rural Oklahoma.
Unpopular opinion: Lucy’s having a hard time, too. Clearly she knows at least a bit of the broken heart she’s talking about, and you can see the suffering in her actions. Yes, she smashed Schroeder’s piano, and no, that’s not okay, but she’s been dealing with Schroeder’s rejection for so long, and everyone has their breaking point. I’m not condoning Lucy’s past actions in which she did awful things to Schroeder’s piano/other people, but I’m just saying, I have sympathy for her because I can see that she’s gone through tough times, too. Thank you for coming to my TED talk.
Do you realize what you’ve done? You’ve taken a woman who loves you, one of the great women in the world and thrown her away. I lost her too, but I will get over it because I am shallow and self-centered. But you, you wont, because you are “complex”. You will feel terrible anguish for the rest of your life. This is turning out to be a pretty good day!

That piano is done for. Kindling. Even some smoke rising from the wreckage.

This was also used for “Be My Valentine, Charlie Brown” a year later from its original 1974 release.

Now that I’m older, I identify so much with Lucy. I can still remember sitting on the piano bench while he played.
