With this strip – sometimes it is hard to tell what is sarcasm and what is sincere. I’ve been a manager for some time in my career at different levels. When I am talking with people who have never been managers it can be a bit tricky to talk about that work in a way that makes sense, and often they don’t really want to know – they want to just rail at “the man”.

Managing good employees who know their jobs is mostly communication
Managing some people is more like hearding cats
I only have to manage 2 other people and that’s only when my manager goes on vacation
5 weeks a year, not too bad

Sometimes being a manager is like being a fertilizer spreader. You take all the manure from up above and spread it as evenly as possible.

A good manager will work for her/his subordinates as a bulldozer to clear the way for them to do their jobs. Among other things.
