Teachers may say that Dickens was one of the all time greats, but I never voluntarily read anything he wrote. And I’ve read a LOT of the last 5 decades.
Sometimes it is in the eye of the beholder – you have to have a LOT of confidence to interpret “oh you little Dickens!” as “well she thinks I’m a young Charles!”
Did you know that Dickens was part of the first incarnation of the Ghost Club? When he died they dissolved in the 1870’s then were reborn in the 1880’s to the present.
Mallet pulled an Alex here. Alex is a comic strip in which two bankers discuss a topic for three panels, and the fourth reveals that they mean the opposite of what the reader was expecting. <https://www.alexcartoon.com/>

If Caulfield is a little Dicken’s he would probably be a member of Fagin’s gang.

The problem for Caulfield is he is brilliant in English lit among many things but there are few jobs for things you love and enjoy. Sighs.
Caulfield would be best as a McGyver if such a job existed.

Seriously – until I looked this up, I always thought ‘dickens’ meant a certain type of impish child in a Dickens novel. Oops.
