Interesting that so much of this discussion has been about the candy and not how disappointing the day can be for some, as suggested by Frazz’ comment.
With my dad and I, all the milk chocolate and chewy ones were left over… I would take them out right away so they wouldn’t get stale and share them with my co-workers.

Why would leftover Valentine’s candy be disgusting? Usually this candy is of a higher quality than Halloween’s candy.

Flavors in the chocolate pieces are not all appealing to kids- leftover means the pieces that the parents didn’t eat!
