My dog will lay on his bed and watch me in the morning. When I get up and say: “Hey Siri – what is the temperature” he then gets up and walks to the coat closet knowing that is the last step for me before we go for a walk.
If it’s the weekend, one of my dogs will watch me go upstairs and then follow me. If I’m putting on pants, he gets excited as he’s sure it means a walk or perhaps a ride in the car. He does not do this on weekdays and it pre-dates COVID-19.
My cat used to jump right up when I talked about going for a walk. Now she waits until after I’ve put on the scarf, hat, headphones, coat and shoes and am actually out the door before she bestirs herself. She knows “actions speak louder than words”. :)

Who needs pants to walk a dog? Cats, of course.

My dog checks out my shoes to know if it’s walkies or adventures or just one of Mom’s boring errands.
