I wonder where Hubbs is gonna go, do you suppose he’s heading back to his mother’s house? He should’ve taken Al with him, that would’ve really sent a message to Ellie.
He’s going to a team tryout as a walk-on. He believes in himself. He has a talent and instinct for the game. He also has aptitude. He has enough intelligence to do his job as an accountant, actuary, or whatever it was, so he should have been smart enough to play college ball.
Hell, half of USC’s line-up, major in “Speech communications” and they can’t actually say Speech Communications!
I hope this is the Kurt Warner Story, Part II and he gains fame and fortune, and get’s back his family.
What does she want? A man that takes care of her baby. He proved he can. All the pics we saw of him was holding, talking and playing with the kids. She was walking, worried about everything that could harm the kid and then let’s him get electrocuted. Someone needs to stick her hand in socket or at least blow in her ear and fill her up.
Hubbs may well triumph in his quest to attain his dream. He will only be fulfilled with Ellie and Al there to cheer him on. Go, Hubbs! Wake up, Ellie. Especially fine art yesterday and today.
I envision that Hubbs is coming to the realization that his boyhood dreams are dead and he has to grow up and create new dreams WITH his new family. He’s grieving and is leaving to get rid of the ball, but plans to be back.
Simultaneously, I envision Ellie will see whatever is on that note and think the worst, waking up to what a [insert words I can’t say on GoComics here] she has been, and goes after him. The end will be Hubbs promising to her that he’ll be less selfish about his dreams, while Ellie promises to let him have his dreams. Compromise.
Keep in mind, mutual misinterpretation is what this couple is all about, and unlike last time we’ve only been getting Hubbs’ side of it. They’re both kinda dumb in several key ways. They’ll get there and we’ll have a happy ending….hopefully moreso for all the trouble BeaR is putting us through.
Jeez people, Have a little Faith. Bea has always been the master of drawing out our emotions. Don’t give up so easily. To quote Tom Petty, “the wai aiting is the hardest part”.
I understand that, as an artist, you want to explore new things. But I don’t really tune in to this strip to be depressed either.I hope you go back to the humor we usually get pretty soon.

I can’t wait to see El’s reaction… I’m not so sure she’ll freak out as much as we expect.

He isn’t carrying a bag, just a football. I think he just wrote a note that he is off to play a game with his friends.

I hope he went out to play or workout or something. Or over to talk to Sam. But he probably just went home to his mom.

At least, that’s my hope.

“It was the best of times, it was the worst of times,
It was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness,
It was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity,
It was the season of light, it was the season of darkness,
It was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair.”
