Chocolate and cocoa contain theobromine, which can be metabolized in humans but not in cats or dogs. It can build up to a toxic substance that causes liver damage in cats and dogs. By the way, for humans who get calcium-based kidney stones, chocolate contains oxalate, which combines with calcium to form stones. So chocolate isn’t always great for humans, either. (I’m not always good about avoiding it, though…)
