See the crosspiece on the lamppost? Some electric lampposts still imitate the style of antique gaslights where the crosspiece supported the ladder of the lamplighter who lit the gas flame each night. After I learned that, now I cannot look at that style of lamppost without imagining the ladder and the lamplighter.
