Just wait till they find out the the Librarian leaves a dog or two to roam and guard the place all night long. Personally, I would use terriers. They are very good mousers. And mice would like to nibble on books. Plus leave little reminders of their travels around the Library. Mice would also be living there, thus be visiting every night if the dogs don’t get them first. Two cat would be just a bonus for the guard-dogs.

The small town I grew up in always had a cat at the library. Best mouser in the county!!

I keep my bookshelves tightly packed to keep the cats from messing with them
Besides that, I have a lot of books and running out of room
