I love the characterisation of the cop in “Sportsmanship” – from his gait in Panel 1 to his somewhat uncertain stance on skates in the fourth. That’s some good cartoonin’.

1 Backward binoculars. Bozo must prefer to see her at a distance.

2 And they’re back off to the races, folks.

3 Nice to see Umbrella Guy’s got a good winter’s coat.

1. “You so teeny tiny that me has to use glasses to sees ya.”

“And you so big n wide that me has to use telescope in reverse to sees ya.” Har har!

2. And so the winter games begins.

3. Thanks goodness for the thermometer or me would never knows it so cold.

Such a joy it is to read these fully fun comics with such beautiful and skillful artwork. Monday blues will turn into a pleasant blue sky with joy. A big thumbs up, a big applause and three cheers of course for the marvellous master FoXo’s magnificent masterpiece, the pleasant picturesque pantomime,the ever entertaining evergreen entertainer BOZO!

1) Here’s looking at you Mrs. Highandmighty. 2) All in all, a couple of good skates. 3) The power of suggestion at work.

{1} Escaping the long blades of the law! A great sport, too.

{2} Good gracious. Jack Sprat’s wife could have fallen and squashed poor Bozo!

(Can you imagine the pounds per square inch on the heels of those silly shoes?)

Mighty made small. Might fast feet. Mighty cold surprise. I don’t mind the cold as much as the wind. Frigid temps are dreadful but add the wind and they are vicious mean and wicked.

1. You looks better when I hold the binoculars like dis.

2. I gets it! The cop wasn’t chasing Bozo for doing wrong, they was running to the hardware store so they could get skates to have fun.

3. Bozo didn’t know it was cold because he’s hot tempered. Now that he knows it’s cold, he’s downright frozen.

1) CLOSE INSPECTION: Bozo at a fancy party gets some scrutiny from a dowager and he returns the favor!

2) ELECTRA GLIDE BOZO & BLUE: Police chase again, and Bozo stops at a sporting goods store to skate on the ice, the officer chasing him dons them too!

3) REMEMBERING THE COLD: Not wearing a coat Fuzzy reminds Bozo its cold outside!

And I’m hanged if he’ll marry his boss’ daughter

A skinny-lipped virgin with blood like water

Who’ll give him a peck

And call it a kiss

And look in his eyes through a lorgnette…

SPORTSMANSHIP was on my day of birth, Jan. 9, 1951. It is no big deal, but it is like what was happening on the day you were born. Bozo was playing Tom & Jerry with a Cop!
