Just the opposite… Pogo should be required reading.
When I was young, the funnies were the gateway drug to newspapers (and a Peanuts excerpt in a Readers’ Digest collection my intro to the funnies). I skipped Pogo because the printing was just too weird. Then one day I started reading it, and, like Qiset, I have quite the collection of Pogo books, and I still look for ones I don’t have at used book stores.
Good job. I have always liked Walt Kelly’s art. Interesting enough, when Disney made the original Dumbo animated movie, he had to hire almost every artist and cartoonist in the country. One of them was Walt Kelly. His art was so distinguished you can tell which scenes he animated.
In the 60s Pogo was on the Editorial Page in the newspapers we got. Only thing I ever read in Section A, except the digest part where there were little snippets of odd things happening around the country. Those are the “articles” I chose for current events.

The only thing missing was Bear as the bear character in Pogo.

Must admit I haven’t read Pogo. Now you guys have peaked my interest. I’ll see if I can find it online somewhere and check it out.

My dad loved Pogo. I never got the humour of it, but we read all the comics together.
