Here’s an excellent example of an oboist who uses circular breathing to play non-stop. He has a couple of breaks early in the piece when the choir sings without his accompaniment, but from there on he just keeps going and going to the end.
He’s certainly dedicated. I have trouble with high notes, especially sustaining strongly. If I practiced with concentration I’d do much better. But I don’t like the sound.

That’s quite the lung capacity Peter Otterloop, Jr. has there.

Once again, a little under 10 years ago, Richard posted a blog entry regarding this and the prior 6 strips:
http://richardspooralmanac.blogspot.com/2011/03/todays-cul-de-sac-march-7-to-13-2011.html
If you’ve been following these and didn’t see last week’s because the strip hadn’t yet been posted,
https://www.gocomics.com/culdesac/2021/03/07?comments=visible
is there now with a blog pointer regarding those strips.

My old trumpet teacher demanded that I be able to play 16 bars between breaths. I could do it if the music was fast enough….

Your lungs aren’t completely empty until your toes curl – at least that’s how my girlfriend acted (she was an expert on the flute)…
